Report of the Coral Estate Classic MTB-Race - November 16th 2008

Last Sunday the famous Coral Estate Classic was scheduled. Start was at 3pm, which normally means; be prepared for the temperature and the sun. But none of that was true for today; rain was what the weather-angels brought us. Ai noooo! But real bikers survive rain, wind and mud so also Sorsaka-Bikers do! Actually, these weather conditions made it a heavy but unforgettable MTB-race.

Almost everyone started very well; cycling uphill towards the entrance of the Coral Estate Resort. But where were the two motivated Sorsaka-bikers brought by Norman? They arrived 15 minutes later guided by their coach Norman. That’s what we macamba’s call ‘the Antillean quarter’.

Once in the mundi Niels took his first obstacle; a muddy pool filled with rain water. This resulted in a crash on his right side. Damn! A couple of minutes later Dinja took that same obstacle and felt on her left side. Another damn! But well, she’s getting used to it. In the meantime Adje, Nicole, Tom, Thea, Ben, Carina and Waiking were doing their best to survive this muddy race. During the last lap Carina and Dinja were still very close to each other. Also Ben was coming closer and closer to Niels. (‘hey, what’s that sub-master guy doing so close behind me?!’). Thea’s biggest enemy was the mud during her last lap which resulted in another charming ‘Sorsaka-bikers crash’.

It was an exciting race until the end. All Sorsaka-bikers finished: PABIEN! Also thanks to our supporters Mieke and Norman (the only guy wearing a clean Sorsaka-shirt). But where was Norman at the finish? Ai siiii, the after-party already started and the beers were waiting!

After the race all our bicycles as well as our body’s were covered with mud, but after a quick french shower (masha danki Tom & Thea!) we were all ready for the after-party! Ben decided to take a shower in the rain accompanied by a nice cold beer. That’s the real Sorsaka-Bikers-after-party-spirit Bennie! Dinja was so happy with her trophy (3th place), that she completely forgot to wear her Sorsaka-shirt when she received her award. But Norman was just on time to remember her.

It was a great party with lots of beer, wine, soup, sate’s, music and swinging hips.

Tired but with a good feeling we left when the party was almost done. Looking forward to a nice (warm?!) shower, dry clothes and a bed.

Next upcoming race: The Extreme! Hope to see you all there! But first we’re going to party (and cycling) @ Bonaire !

Greetzzzz,

Dinja
