I only have two things to say…
The first is: Ooooooh myyyyyy Goooood and the second is: I should’ve taken the day off today!
You would think that one would learn from one’s mistakes, but apparently last year’s
experience in Bonaire didn’t teach me about not only the benefits, but the actual
necessity of taking an extra day off following a Sorsaka Bikers activity!
Where to begin this wonderful tale…
It all started with the arrival of the Sorsaka gang at Aquaoord Friday afternoon.
The first members started strolling in at around five pm and by seven pm almost everyone
was present and accounted for (except off course for a few organizers who are well
known for their..ehem..punctuality and who therefore always have last minute details
to take care off – let’s not mention any names here oki-
Everyone got a tour of the place, selected a room and settled in quickly as it was…HAPPY HOUR TIME!
And so began our Sorsaka Bikers goes Bandabow adventure!
Our first evening at the resort was pleasant and relaxed; we enjoyed a delicious
barbeque prepared by our hand-
I would not dare insinuate in any way that our members are not as young as they used to be, so I’ll just say that since we are all extremely mature adults and we knew that we had a big day ahead of us, we all agreed to make it an early night (or at least 12:00 am is considered pretty early for our standards!)
The next day program called for breakfast at seven, that way we would be able to
head out at around eight. Again, being the responsible adult that I am, bless my
hart, I took it upon myself to tenderly wake up and round up the crew by furiously
blowing a whistle and banging on all the doors with the help of Mieke (who was the
one to bring the whistles by the way, in case one of you is thinking of any type
of retaliation!).
Needless to say we didn’t leave promptly at eight considering all the preparations
that absolutely needed to be completed by the guys, such as adjusting and re-
We finally left camp at around 9 am and headed for…ehem…you know…we took a right,
and than…sh.t! As most of you know I get lost in
my own back yard so can I just say
that we rode all around Bandabow on as well as off road and be done with it?!
I will however mention the most important highlights of the tour which are Boca Patrick,
where we took a delicious dip in the natural jaccuzi (in other words, I splashed
everyone!) and our most daring adventure at Wacawa where we not only had to defy
the coarse terrain, but we also had to confront the Gatekeeper-
Footnote:
Dear Mr. Gatekeeper-
Please accept our apology and as a peace offering we would like you to have this nice group picture of the entire Sorsaka Bikers team that you can hang in your office!

Okay, back to our story. Following our little mishap, which was ultimately resolved
peacefully thanks to the convincing negotiating powers of Norman (in other words,
he bullsh..ted his way out of trouble!) we finally arrived at our pre-
At around four pm we headed for our next adventure: a hike to the blue chamber. Not wanting to overload the streets of Bandabow with lots of cars we decided to cram everyone (yes, all 16 of us!) into one pickup for the short ride to Santa Cruz. Once there it was a nice 20 minute hike to the blue chamber, where the strong of heart jumped from the rocks and the wimps clambered their way down the cliff to the edge of the water and swam to the blue chamber.
The blue chamber is…well…what can I say…BLUE...DHUUUUH! If you’ve never seen it before I highly recommend it. Just don’t go with Norman if you’re not an avid swimmer. He kept pushing everyone off the only rocky ledge available to stand on!
Getting back out of the water is also challenging since you have to pull yourself up from the rocks, but for a bunch of avid bikers such as ourselves…no problemo! So back we went on our merry way for the 20 minute hike and another delightful car ride with 16 people stuffed in a truck; I still don’t know whose toes were jammed up my nose (they were jammed somewhere else off course but this text is censored so I can’t say ass!).
Back at camp we all chilled for a while, got cleaned up and ready for dinner (again
prepared by our hand-
After dinner it was speech time and the Sorsaka Biker and Sosaka Best Rider of the year were announced by our Presidente, el Señor Michaelangelo Samsonio! The Sorsaka Biker of the year honor went to Thea van Leeuwen for all her dedication to the club during 2009, she kept the team united and helped organize all of our 2009 events. Pabien Thea!
The Sorsaka Best Rider of the year was none other than Ben Wolf, the man best known
for trying to get as many scratches as possible when entering a mondi! If Kleine
Rob is our grill-
The awards ceremony was followed by the announcement of the teams for the Bandabow
weekend’s highlight: The club-
Ben organized a tremendous relay competition, matching up the teams in such a way that it was anyone’s game.
Suddenly everyone became extremely nice to one another, constantly offering the competition beer, wine, whiskey…anything to help tip the balance in their favor!
At around 10 pm it was time for the other highlight of the weekend: KAREOKE!
I would like to take some time out here just to say how proud I am of The Sorsaka
Bikers. We are talking about some seriously talented folks here! I get goose bumps
and all emotional just thinking about it. They are without a doubt the most talented
bunch of …BIKERS I’ve ever seen, I repeat, BIKERS, but please…don’t ever hand them
a mike because singing? .....KEEEEEEETU!
Guys, don’t quit your day jobs and please, whenever you see a mike, just walk on…walk on! I know it’s hard, but you can do it. Just repeat this mantra over and over to yourself…I’m a biker not a singer! I’M A BIKER NOT A SINGER!
Pffffh okay, that should do it I hope. In case anyone of you were wondering by the
way the doctor said that the nauseous feeling and the deafness in my left ear should
subside in a day or two, but he warned me to keep a distance of at least 50 feet
from any singing bikers, especially those wearing a red Coca-
Okay, let’s move on fast before heavy objects start flying in my direction! Where was I…
Oh yeah, Sunday…the big event! Everybody was up bright and early, needless to say
with the help of the whistle and the door banging! We had ourselves a good breakfast
and everyone put on their competition poker face. Bikes were again adjusted and re-
We all lined up at the starting line, Ruth gave the count down…and we were off!
I must say, it was an extremely exciting and close race. All teams pretty much stuck
together for the first two rounds. In the end it was all up to Lange Rob, Kleine
Rob and Woutertje to battle it out. Kleine Rob took the first round but ultimately
it was Woutertje who crossed the finish line first, giving his team consisting of
Mieke and Niels the coveted victory. What a race!
After the race a few of us chilled at base camp while others went to the beach for a quick swim. Norman cooked us a wonderful lunch and we all just lay around, to lazy and content to move! Regretfully it was time to head back to the real world so at around 4 we started with the clean up and by six we were ready to go. After lot’s of farewells, hugs and kisses, crying and emotional outbursts we all finally parted ways…Nhaaaa, not really, gimme a brake, we’re all going to see each other again in two days when training starts again!
But on a final note, I did have a heck of a time. It was nice sharing the weekend with all of you and as always the Sorsaka Bikers activity ROCKED! So, at the moment I am beat, exhausted, extremely tired…but…ready for our next adventure! Are YOU ready?!
Greetz,
Sam Shorty
