Wallie & Lies…. Two Belgiums but also Yu di Korsou, bikers, all-round sportsmen singers and definitely Sorsaka’s are leaving the island after almost two years. A week ago they competed in their last race and last Friday they had their goodbye party at Baya Beach. I thought a good reason for a report!

At first the race. The preparations were good for all Sorsaka’s, we’ve been training a lot on the race course which is located close to our new temporarily clubhouse at the beach of Caracasbaai ;-). For Walter is was his ultimate chance of winning a race in the elite class and so he was perfectly prepared whit a 2,7 kg weighing new carbon MTB and a night whithout sleep because of his nerves! Right after the start the suffering began for all the competitors. Because of the heat, the race was incredibly though. Like many competitors, some Sorsaka’s did not reach the finish and some could only reach it with a lot of persistence! For example Ben, who had to change wheels during the race and found out that you shouldn’t put a Camel Bag in the freezer the night before the race! Another example was Dinja, she had little troubles during the race……. until the very last corner in which she slided on some little stones and fell hard on her arm. Even with her injuries, she made it to the finish as second in her class, pabien! As always Lies was a class of her own in the womens elite class, but how did her ‘Zoet’ Wallie go??? Despite his nerves and a loose saddle, which forced him to ride his bike like you normally ride your chopper motorbike, he won the men’s elite class!! That is what you call stopping at your top! Then to the party at Baya Beach. Normally the attendance of Sorsaka’s at social events is better then the races and this occasion was not different!! Walter en Lies arranged a goodbye party for friends and the theme fot the evening was something like rock gods and glitter chicks. The Sorsaka’s however, did not know that and were not dressed to the theme. Still it was a superb party, something we had expected from party animal Wally! During the party our leader Norman speeched for Walter and Lies and our present, a beautiful picture collage on canvas, was handed over to them. Click here for the collage.

Later on after hopi drinks, it appeared that Thea had some fine dancing moves and finally Walter got jonassed by Norman, Niels and Toro! Have a look at some fine pictures of the evening here.

On behalf of all Sorsaka’s I want to thank our Belgium friends for a superb party and more important, for the good times we had together as team-mates and friends. Losing you guys means losing two real Sorsaka’s, real bikers, but also very social and fun loving people. The only advantage I can imagine is that I am one place closer to a win in the next race ;-)..
